Day Four

Day four was so much fun as we explored the world of water. We explored the power of a vortex.

WE then tackled the Myth of walking on water. We combined cornstarch and water. This mixture is very unique and a blast to play with.

Day Three

Wow! Has time just gone by so fast this week. We have been having so much fun experimenting. I can definitely say it has been such a joy working with your children. Today we had so much fun working with Dry Ice. We experimented with the effects of trapping Carbon Dioxide in a bubble.

We ended the day exploring the effects of air and Bernoullis Principle which states that an object moving at a high enough speed can fly. The air flows evenly around the object. We EACH tested this with a blow dryer, ping pong balls and balloons!

Egg Drop Challenge

The students were given a challenge. Their egg would drop and have to land safely without breaking. Each  group of four worked together to come up with a plan to help cushion the blow of gravity. Everyone did such an awesome job. They came up with a lot of GREAT ideas. Here is a video our Little MythBusters and their process of the egg drop challenge.

Milk and Soap

We looked at surface tension with this cool experiments. All you need is Milk, Food Coloring and Soap!

Myth: Mentos and Soda will make a Volcano like Eruption.

Much like the scientist on MythBusters, we experimented with Mentos and Soda. Here is our experiment:

Myth: The Combination of Pop Rocks and Soda has a Stomach Exploding Reaction

We began Little Mythbusters with an exciting experiment. This myth has been heard for generations.

The myth began in 1975, when pop rocks were introduced to the public. Kids enjoyed the fizz and pop of this unique candy. suddenly wild rumors surrounded the playground that the Child star Mikey died from mixing pop rocks and soda.The company set up a hotline to assure parents the product was safe. 

Our class was excited to take this myth on. We filled a balloon with pop rocks, assuming the balloon was similar to our stomach. When then attached the balloon to the bottle. The students made predictions on whether the balloon would pop or survive the deadly combination.

Finally, we let the pop rocks combine with the soda. 

We recorded our observation. It was obvious the balloon filled with Carbon di-oxide but the balloon remained intact.
